The Summer 2028 Olympics are highly anticipated due to its return to the States, specifically the city Los Angeles. The committee recently revealed their plans to focus on rebuilding LA and the inclusion of a big Kendrick Lamar presence.
“The rebirth, the rebuild, maybe reimagining L.A. 2.0 — and the Olympics as a catalyst for all those things — we think is really part of our ethos,” Casey Wasserman, chairman of the Olympics organizing committee, told The Associated Press. The wildfires at the beginning of 2025 burned down many homes and businesses, thus displacing a large percentage of people. Though several celebrities and organizations have come together to gather resources for those affected over the last few months, Wasserman plans to continue those efforts in three years.
“You can’t have a natural disaster at that scale in a city as big and as important as Los Angeles and not have it be part of your core philosophy going forward […] From purely an Olympics perspective, we got very lucky. That’s not the most important thing. What’s important is helping people get back into their homes, get back settled, get back with their lives.”

As with anything related to Los Angeles over the last year, a natural thought is Kendrick Lamar being included, given his massive success. Wasserman confirmed that it is on the table. “Fortunately in my day job I represent Kendrick Lamar,” the CEO of his eponymous sports marketing and talent agency said. “He is truly an L.A. icon, so I think it would be a pretty fair bet that Kendrick will be involved in the Olympics in Los Angeles in some way.”
This would be a major look for the Compton rapper, who performed during the Apple Music Super Bowl LIX halftime show last month, won five Grammys for his smash hit diss record “Not Like Us,” and has produced four Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 songs over the last year.
This was all a culmination of his game-changing rap battle against Drake followed by his latest album GNX, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. Lamar has continued his momentum with multiple appearances on Playboi Carti’s latest album I Am Music and will hit the road with SZA next month for his Grand National Tour.
