50 Cent is known for his relentless trolling, but over the weekend, he took a rare moment of humility to confirm a story shared by Nelly about the time he apologized for taking shots at Ashanti.
On Saturday (June 28), the 49-year-old took to Instagram to co-sign Nelly during an appearance on Fat Joe and Jadakiss’ new podcast. The moment in question dates back to the early 2000s, when 50 was in the midst of the infamous beef with Murder Inc. Records.
Ashanti, who was signed to the label and closely aligned with Ja and Irv Gotti, became collateral damage and caught in the lyrical crossfire. But according to Nelly, who was romantically linked to Ashanti at the time, he wasn’t about to let the G-Unit boss slide. 50 confirmed the encounter on Instagram, writing, “This is true no [cap] detected. I always liked Moe, he took off when I got hit. I was hurt I couldn’t do nothing but watch the TV.”

Recalling the incident, Nelly explained that Ashanti encouraged him to say something to 50 at an event. So, he approached the “In Da Club” rapper and asked him to fall back when it came to the “Foolish” singer — given she had nothing to do with the feud.
The Queens native reportedly replied with his signature edge, noting, “Anything goes in war.”
Still, Nelly claimed 50 offered a loud, public apology to Ashanti.
Interestingly, Nelly and 50 have never had a publicized “beef.” In fact, 50 recently admitted to taking inspiration from the St. Louis icon’s chart-topping hit “Hot in Herre” to create one of Lloyd Banks’ biggest records — “On Fire.”
“I would be able to look at someone else’s record and make my version of the record when the right production came around,” 50 explained in a 2023 interview.
“When Nelly was going ‘It’s getting hot in here so take off all your clothes’… That’s how Banks did ‘On Fire.’ I wrote the chorus for that.” He added, “It’s the same record. It’s just new melodies, new production and let Banks do it.”
