Tyler, The Creator Says “Gross” Podcasts Should Be Taken Away

In a recent interview with The Cut, Tyler, The Creator didn’t hold back when sharing his thoughts on the state of podcast culture.

“I think we give a lot of people who aren’t smart and just want attention platforms to be loud and incorrect, and other stupid people follow them,” he said, summing up his frustration with unskilled interviews taking over the internet. “Everybody with a mic is crazy. I just think that sh*t is gross.”

For Tyler, the issue isn’t just about oversaturation — it’s about people being “loud and incorrect” with their facts. “Where are the people with skills? We need electricians, we need more drummers, painters, teachers,” he added, pointing out that society seems to be giving more space to opinions than to actual expertise.

Tyler, however, shouted out a couple of podcasts that he believes are getting it right: Deante Kyle and The Cutting Room Floor. According to him, those shows represent something that feels thoughtful and worthy of listeners’ time.

Just last year in his cover with Billboard, the Grammy-winner jokingly claimed that the first thing he’d do as president would be to confiscate podcast mics. “If I was president, the first thing I would do is take podcast mics away from ni**as.”

The “WUSYANAME” artist’s sentiments are similar to Drink Champs host, N.O.R.E., when it comes to hosts being skilled and informed. While speaking with VIBE last year, the rapper-turned-podcaster said, “Being in front of a microphone is one thing — but asking the right questions from the other side is a completely different game.”

Speaking to his own transition from the rap booth to the pod mic, he added, “I make it seem easy because I was in the locker room with all these guys,” explaining his advantage of knowing most of his subjects personally. “I was on tour with all these people. I knew these people, so it made it interesting interviewing my friends.”
