Doechii made a commanding debut on day four at the Glastonbury Festival on Saturday night (June 28), headlining the West Holts Stage with a dynamic 45-minute set. Despite never having performed at the festival before, the Florida-born rapper delivered a carefully crafted performance that highlighted her versatility as an artist and her knack for storytelling.

Framed as a theatrical “School of Hip-Hop,” the set was presented as a six-part lesson plan highlighting core components of the genre such as bars, flow, and technique. The performance incorporated live singing, rapping, dancing, and visual storytelling, creating an immersive concert experience. DJ Miss Milan served as hypewoman and engaged the crowd as the show moved between original songs and unforgettable interpolations.

With just one studio album to her name — 2024’s Alligator Bites Never Heal — Doechii’s ability to headline such a festival was notable. The performance integrated a wide range of musical references, including tracks like Wu-Tang Clan’s “C.R.E.A.M.,” OutKast’s “Elevators (Me & You),” Jay-Z’s “Can I Live,” and dance classics like Daft Punk’s “One More Time.”

One standout moment came during her top charting hit, “Anxiety.” The song received a rock-infused remix for the performance, adding a new layer to the track. During an outfit change, Doechii also acknowledged criticism she faced following the Met Gala earlier this year, where she was heard demanding umbrellas from her team. In a self-aware nod to the moment, her dancers incorporated umbrellas into the choreography, turning controversy into commentary.

During “Catfish,” Milan introduced Doechii as “the greatest rapper in the world,” prompting the artist to respond with an emotional scream, visibly moved by the reception. The show concluded with an encore titled “The Art of Storytelling,” featuring scenes from her viral “Denial Is a River” music video, which parodies vintage television sitcoms.

Doechii’s Glastonbury debut comes after a standout year that included earning the title of Billboard’s Woman of the Year and winning her first Grammy. Her headline set at one of the world’s most prestigious music festivals marked another career milestone for the Swamp Princess.
