The “B” in Cardi B might stand for “Billboard” the way she landed another hit recently. Her latest single “Outside” debuted at No. 10 on the Hot 100 this week.
The track, released two Fridays ago (June 20), kicked off the road to her sophomore album, Am I The Drama? The album is already eligible for RIAA Platinum certification due to her inclusion of the 2020 hit “WAP” with Megan Thee Stallion and 2021’s “Up.” However, “Outside” also brings her another major achievement.
The record marked her 13th Billboard Top 10 hit, joining the likes of “Bodak Yellow,” “I Like It,” “Tomorrow 2” with GloRilla, “Finesse” with Bruno Mars, “Girls Like You” with Maroon 5, “Enough (Miami),” and more. “Outside” is also the first song by a female rapper to debut in the Billboard Hot 100 Top 10 since her March 2024 single “Enough.” With a little over two months until Drama? comes out (Sept. 19), it is possible that she drops another single and adds to this milestone.
Cardi’s forthcoming album will close an over seven-year gap since her record-breaking, Grammy-winning debut album Invasion Of Privacy. The 2018 LP featured Bad Bunny, SZA, Migos, 21 Savage, Kehlani, Chance The Rapper, and more. The album sold 255,000 album-equivalent units in its first week and debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. Currently, every song is certified RIAA Platinum, and multiple songs have reached Diamond.
She teased her sophomore album countless times over the last few years, claiming that she was putting the finishing touches on it and, at one point, was seemingly at odds with her label, Atlantic Records.
Nonetheless, the time is almost here, and it will be interesting to see how this lands given the ill-fated “sophomore slump” that has plagued several artists throughout Hip-Hop’s over 50-year existence. Listen to “Outside” below.
