Atlanta rhymer Jeezy has opened up about being removed from Beyoncé’s “Drunk In Love” by her hubby and fellow artist, JAY-Z.
The Southern spitter shared the reveal on Carmelo Anthony’s 7PM In Brooklyn podcast, where he recalled writing for the Beyoncé album track and says he ultimately “dropped the ball.” Hov also did him the courtesy of letting him know that his verse had been removed and that he, instead, would hop on the mid-tempo hit.
“I dropped the ball when I wrote my verse for ‘Drunk In Love’ for Beyoncé,” Jeezy recalled. “Hov called me. He’s like, ‘I took you off the song. By the way, I’m on there.’ I was like, ‘I figured that.’” he revealed, adding that the lost verse is, “on someone’s drive. Tell Bey we need to put that out. It’s some vintage.”
Jeezy went on to reveal that, despite having several collaborations, he has only physically been in the studio with JAY-Z once, and it was during the “Drunk In Love” writing session. According to the Snowman, he may have gone a little too hard with his verse, resulting in it being replaced.
“He came in the room and she’s like, ‘You got something for this?’ You know, I’m going in. It sounded crazy. This is her song, but I’m just trying to go hard. He probably like, ‘Oh nah. We no putting that out.’”
