Popular content creator and street interview sensation, Kuye Adegoke, better known as Egungun of Lagos, is once again trending, but not for his viral vox pops. This time around, it’s for a birthday message that left many scratching their heads.
On Wednesday, July 2, Egungun took to Instagram to celebrate his wife, Pashotah, with a photo and a caption that was meant to be cheeky and humorous, but came off to many as inappropriate.
In his attempt to share a “throwback story” of how far they’ve come, the skitmaker revealed that he once considered linking her up with a richer friend, for a small fee. The father of one wrote:
“10 years ago I wanted to link you up with my friend wey get money pass me 🤣 for hotel because he say make I go find babe for am for Yabatech. Honestly, I’m a mumu. I no know say na you I go still marry. This guy wan literally give me 3k naira to bring you to his house in Ajah 😭😭😭😭😭. HAPPY BDAY MY LOVE 😍 😭😭 help me wish her oooooo, she lady really tried o @pashotah.”
While some fans chuckled at the raw street-style storytelling Egungun is known for, others weren’t amused. Many felt the post was disrespectful and distasteful, especially as it publicly referenced his wife being almost “pimped out” years ago. See screenshot of some reactions to Egungun’s post below:
This isn’t the first time Egungun has raised eyebrows online with his posts, but this one hit differently, especially considering how far the couple has come. Egungun and Pashotah, who got engaged in March 2024, welcomed their first child just a year later in March 2025.
The proposal video, which featured a romantic set-up with music, dancing, and surprise guests, had gone viral and earned him a wave of goodwill from fans and fellow skitmakers.
