Former President Donald Trump is once again making headlines for his unfiltered tongue — once again taking aim at his presidential predecessor, Joe Biden.
During a visit to the Florida migrant detention facility nicknamed “Alligator Alcatraz” on Tuesday (July 1) in the Everglades, Trump claimed Biden had once hoped to see him locked behind bars, like the anticipated detainees.
“Biden wanted me in here, OK? He wanted me,” he said, while standing beside rows of chain-link cages that will begin housing detained migrants soon. “Didn’t work out that way, but he wanted me in here — that son of a bi**h.”
Trump’s comments were part of his continued critique of the Biden administration, which he blames for the two federal indictments he faced in 2023 — both tied to the fallout from the 2020 election and his handling of classified documents. Those cases were ultimately closed after Trump was re-elected in 2024.
The $450,000,000-a-year detention center is reportedly built to house up to 5,000 migrants. Beyond the cage-like conditions, the Everglades facility is also said to be surrounded by alligators, crocodiles, and invasive pythons. Hence the ominous nickname: “Alligator Alcatraz.”
Speaking to the bizarre conditions, Trump told reporters in D.C. before heading to the site, “This is not a nice business.” He then gave the public survival advice, gesturing how to escape an alligator attack. “Don’t run in a straight line. Run like this,” he instructed.
The Biden camp has remained rather silent on Trump’s taunts since Biden announced he would not seek re-election in July 2024. Biden, however, has used the swampy imagery surrounding the facility to criticize Trump’s extreme immigration policies. The former president appears to be unbothered.
Trump has a history of using the aforementioned derogatory term when speaking about Biden. At a campaign rally in Pennsylvania in July 2023, he called the then-president a “dumb son of a bi**h,” adding to the growing list of inflammatory comments that have become a part of his political style.
