In a recent sit-down with the SA Hip Hop Mag Podcast, rap heavyweight Big Zulu didn’t hold back when it came to discussing his long-anticipated boxing match with fellow rapper Cassper Nyovest. The Inkabi Records boss boldly claimed, “Cassper is scared of me.” And judging by the context of the conversation, it wasn’t just posturing — it came with a story.
According to Big Zulu, the idea of stepping into the ring was first planted by Cassper himself. “Cassper is actually the one who introduced me to boxing,” he admitted, crediting the “Siyathandana” hitmaker for pushing him to get in shape and train seriously. Inspired by the growing trend of celebrity boxing matches, Big Zulu took the challenge seriously and immersed himself in training.
But that’s where things took a turn.
Big Zulu says he directly asked Cassper to give him a date for their fight — and that’s where the silence started. “I told him to give me a date, he never did,” Zulu revealed. He believes Cassper’s confidence wavered after seeing him spar in person. “He came to watch me fight. I think that’s when he realised that I’m not just rapping about being strong — I would actually damage him.”
The tension between the two isn’t new. Fans have been buzzing for years about the possibility of the two chart-topping stars settling their differences in the ring, especially given Cassper’s past fights with NaakMusiQ and Priddy Ugly. But Big Zulu’s claim adds a fresh layer — suggesting that the fight may not happen, not because of logistics or contracts, but because of fear.
Still, Big Zulu made it clear there’s no bad blood, only unfinished business. “I respect him. He’s done a lot for the game, and he got me into this boxing thing. But if he ever decides he’s ready, I’ll be waiting.”
Until then, the ball remains firmly in Cassper’s court — and fans are watching closely to see if he’ll lace up the gloves or let this one slide.
