How a role made me bald – Hafiz Oyetoro ’Saka’ shares real story behind his signature bald look

If you know Saka, you know the bald head. It’s the unmistakable signature of veteran Nollywood comic actor Hafiz Oyetoro, who has made millions laugh over the years.

He has been doing it from TV commercials to Yoruba movies and classroom lectures. But what most fans don’t know is how that bald look started, and that it wasn’t even planned.

In a recent interview with Chude Jideonwo, the 61-year-old actor peeled back the curtain on a surprising chapter from his university days. He revealed, chuckling:

“I shaved my head for a role in school, and the hair never grew again.”

What started as a one-time stage role in school theatre turned into a permanent look that would later become one of the most recognizable faces in Nollywood comedy. He added:

“That’s how I’ve looked ever since.”

But beyond the laughter and slapstick characters, Saka’s real life is a tale of quiet endurance, rejection, and the beauty of finding love when the cameras aren’t rolling.

He shared how, even at the height of early fame, a woman he hoped to marry walked away simply because he couldn’t meet her financial requirements. Saka disclosed:

“The woman I wanted to marry insisted I had two cars first before anything,”

“I was already popular at the time, but I wasn’t even thinking of one car, talk less of two.”

Despite his rising popularity, the material demands placed on him were too much, and the relationship ended. But Saka didn’t dwell on it. Instead, he focused on building his life, and would eventually find the one person who didn’t need him to flash cars or status. The legendary actor added:

“I got married at 40. And marrying my wife is the best decision ever.”

Now happily married to Olaide Oyetoro for over 20 years, the couple has three children — two sons and a daughter, and Saka proudly admits that he’s never had a side chick or romantic scandal.

“I’ve never had an extramarital affair. I don’t have it in me to chase women around. Even before I got married, I was not promiscuous.”

The actor, who is also a lecturer at the Lagos State University of Education, balances his academic work with his passion for acting. He gained national fame in 2013 with the iconic “I don port o!” MTN commercial, a moment that sealed his place in pop culture.

Despite the bald head that became a comic tool and the many laughs he delivers, Hafiz Oyetoro’s real life is marked by discipline, humility, and a grounded view of fame.
