Reality TV star and Big Brother Naija Season 7 winner, Phyna, has sparked renewed political debate following her unexpected public endorsement of Omoyele Sowore for the 2027 presidential race—while casting doubt on the integrity of 2023 Labour Party flagbearer, Peter Obi.

In a recent post on X that drew widespread attention, Phyna asked if Sowore would run in 2027 and pledged her personal support for his candidacy. More strikingly, she implied Obi no longer represented the ideal of transparent leadership she once admired, stating:

“Is @YeleSowore going to contest in 2027? If yes, sir I am personally ready. Because from what I just saw even Obi is not a saint. Sowore is looking like our only hope at this point.”

Her remarks come amid mounting reports of a proposed political alliance between Peter Obi and the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

The coalition talks, intended to create a broader opposition front to challenge President Bola Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), have been met with mixed reactions—especially from segments of the youth population who are wary of political mergers that may blur ideological lines.

Phyna’s comment appears to reflect a growing sentiment among young Nigerians who are skeptical of what they perceive as opportunistic political alignments.

While the alliance may strengthen institutional reach, it has also led to questions about consistency in values—particularly from supporters who initially backed Obi as an outsider candidate championing transparency and reform.

In contrast, Omoyele Sowore, leader of the African Action Congress (AAC), has maintained an unyielding anti-establishment posture and consistently criticized traditional opposition politics. His persistent advocacy for electoral reform and youth inclusion has earned him credibility among disenfranchised voters, despite his outsider status.

Phyna’s declaration, though made in her capacity as a cultural figure, underscores how entertainers and influencers are increasingly shaping political conversations.

With Gen Z and millennial voters set to play a decisive role in 2027, endorsements from popular voices like hers can help amplify underrepresented sentiments within the electorate.
