  • Show organizers have withdrawn an award originally meant for Yemi Solade after the actor refused to pay for it.
  • He had been told to sponsor the event and when he refused, the organizers put the plaque up for sale.
  • Expressing utter disappointment in what some award shows have been reduced to, Yemi Solade stated that he doesn’t belong to the class of award plaque buyers.

Popular movie actor Yemi Solade has accused event organisers of attempting to extort money from him for an award plaque.

Yemi Solade took to his official account on the photo and video sharing platform, Instagram on Wednesday to share a screenshot of a conversation with a representative of the organisers, where they demanded sponsorship for the event and claimed the plaque cost money to produce.

Sharing the exchange Solade captioned:

“I refused to pay for the AWARD PLAQUE…This is the outcome.”

The actor elaborated on the incident writing, “I don’t belong to the class of AWARD PLAQUES buyers. I asked Nigeria News Direct if the organisation really meant to SELL an award to me because of the consistent tenacity at which I was harassed to support the event.

“I was compelled to post the final outcome of many days of HIDE and SEEK over the attempt by the lady who had pressed to siphon cash from me.”

This revelation comes on the heels of another controversy involving Yemi Solade, following his portrayal of a gay character in the new film 5Alive.

Last week, the actor responded to critics who took issue with his intimate performance alongside co-star Sanusi Izihaq, popularly known as Apa.

A promotional clip of the movie, shared by actor Rotimi Salami showed Solade and Apa in a scene where they embraced and exchanged a peck on the cheek, portraying them as lovers.

The scene sparked outrage among conservative Nollywood audiences, with critics accusing the actors of attempting to normalize homosexuality.
