Quavo Named Humanitarian Of The Year At Variety’s 2024 Hitmakers Brunch

Quavo was named Humanitarian of the Year at Variety’s 2024 Hitmakers Brunch. The annual event brought game-changing talent to Nya Studios in Hollywood this weekend (Dec. 7) to celebrate some of the music industry’s most influential voices. The Atlanta chart-topper was recognized for his work outside of music, advocating against gun violence. His efforts are largely inspired by the loss of Takeoff, former Migos member and Quavo’s nephew who was shot and killed in November 2022.

The 33-year-old was presented with the honor by Greg Jackson, the Deputy Director of the White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention. Since launching The Rocket Foundation in 2022, Quavo has worked with the White House to combat gun violence nationally, as well as worked locally in Atlanta to bestow Sparks Grants, a program to award $10,000 to 10 organizations. He also  partnered with the Offender Alumni Association to host a music education workshop for at-risk youth as part of a 10-week Rocket camp.

Additionally, the “FLY” performer met with Vice President Kamala Harris in 2023, during the Congressional Black Caucus legislative conference advocating for the formation of the Office of Gun Violence Prevention. Earlier this year ahead of her presidential campaign, the VP joined Quavo to discuss gun violence at the first-ever Rocket Foundation Summit on Gun Violence Prevention in his hometown.

“Losing my brother Takeoff was the worst moment in my life. I didn’t know where to go, where to turn, I didn’t know if I still wanted to make music,” reflected the chart-topper in his acceptance speech, per Variety, dedicating the moment to “everyone fighting for change and fighting for my brother Takeoff, who inspires me every day.”
