Funke Akindele’s ‘Everybody Loves Jenifa’ rakes in ₦206 million in its opening weekend

The box office queen has done it again, breaking the record of Nollywood’s highest-grossing one-day performance with ₦87.8 million and the biggest opening weekend of all time with ₦206 million.

If there’s one thing Funke Akindele knows how to do, it’s give hits. And her latest December release, Everybody Loves Jenifa, has proven she knows her onions and is still the queen of the game.

In an official announcement by the film distributors, the film made a jaw-dropping ₦206 million in its opening weekend. Not only that, but it also raked in an impressive ₦87.8 million on its first day alone, and on its open day, ELJ made ₦45.2 million, earning its place as the biggest opening day for a Nollywood film according to Nigeria’s Box OfficeThe post reads:

“A legendary record-breaking moment in the history of Nollywood #EverybodyLovesJenifa has smashed its way to the top with the highest-grossing of all time and strongest opening in 2024. Big cheers to the cast, crew, and you for making history with us.”

With a mix of comedy, drama, and some unexpected twists, the film stars  Falz, Omotunde ‘Lolo’ Adebowale-David, Olayode Juliana, Chimezie Imo, Layi Wasabi, Bisola Aiyeola, Jackie Appiah, and Omowunmi Dada.

In other news, AY comedian has aired his view on the viral issue that Netflix has readjusted its terms with filmmakers due to misappropriation of funds.

The comedian turned filmmaker stated that it’s not just about filmmakers, but Nigerians in its entirety, highlighting how 300,000 Netflix subscriptions covers 200 million people if not for some hanky-panky involved.
