On Wednesday (Dec. 18), GloRilla returned to her roots in a big way as she surprised students at her alma mater, Melrose High School, with a whopping donation of $25,000. The generous gift was dedicated to enhancing the school’s educational resources.
Per the press release, the heartfelt contribution will help fund a state-of-the-art library with updated technology. The revamped space will also be turned into a modern environment with flexible seating made convenient for students’ collaboration.
As a tribute to GloRilla’s donation, the school also renamed the library to The Gloria H. Woods Media Center—a nod to the rapper’s birth name and her lasting impact on her hometown.
“I always wished somebody could do that when I was younger,” GloRilla stated to FOX13. “So the fact that I have the ability to do it now, it warms my heart.” Melrose High School Principal Kristopher Davis remarked, “We want to upgrade our system so students can be more interactive, so they can research and take their learning to the next level.”
The proclaimed “top female rapper of the year” shared the proud moment on her Instagram, while also including the news of her newly purchased piece of land in Memphis.
“Bought my first piece of land in my city today along with giving back to my high school I graduated from & they named their media center after me God is good & life is great I’m so thankful,” she caption the post of her closing the deal.
