News that BET‘s iconic music video countdown show, 106 & Park, is in the process of being revamped ahead of its 25th anniversary has sparked delight among fans spanning various generations.

Announced by the network’s current president and CEO Scott Mills, word about a reimagined version of 106 & Park being in the works spread quickly, leading to nostalgic memories of late afternoons and early evenings spent glued to the television, waiting to watch the hottest visuals from the most popular artists in Hip-Hop, R&B, and beyond.

Debuting on Sept. 11, 2000, 106 & Park instantly became must-see TV for music fans, both for its focus on the sounds that spoke to young Black and Brown youth, as well as its collection of charismatic hosts throughout its existence.

Pairings such as 106 & Park’s flagship hosts, AJ and Free, to subsequent duos such as Big Tigger and Julissa, Terrence J and Rocsi, and Bow Wow and Paigion, made the programming even more relatable and reflective of the core audience it served throughout its initial 14-year run.

As BET prepares to relaunch 106 & Park for the digital and social media age, VIBE looks back at the timeless moments that made the show a cultural phenomenon.
