A TikToker was recently arrested and indicted after spraying pesticide on food in a supposed prank.
The Maricopa County Attorney’s Office released a statement Tuesday (Jan. 21) detailing TikToker Wolfie Kahletti’s arrest for “poisoning food at a grocery store.” The 27-year-old, né Charles Smith, was arrested in December after he recorded and posted a video of himself spraying chemicals inside a Mesa, AZ, Walmart.
Smith’s TikTok claims his actions were a “prank,” but law enforcement found no humor in his content as the Gen Z offender was hit with multiple charges for his crime, including one count of burglary in the third degree, a class four felony, two counts of adding poison or other harmful substance to water, food, drink, or medicine, a class six felony, one count of endangerment, a class one misdemeanor, one count of criminal damage, and a class one misdemeanor. The Attorney’s Office states that Smith’s actions led to the meat and produce in the store having to be discarded, causing “more than $900 in damage.”
The Mesa Police Department explained how the crime went down based on the video Smith willingly recorded and uploaded to his TikTok channel, and first-hand accounts. “Smith entered the store intending to film pranks for social media, but instead selected a can of Hot Shot Ultra Bed Bug and Flea Killer from the shelf without paying for it,” Mesa Police’s statement read, per FOX10 Phoenix. “He then sprayed the pesticide on various produce items, including vegetables, fruit, and rotisserie chickens that were available for purchase. Smith filmed his face, the pesticide can, and the act of spraying. He later posted the video online.”
Police officers also reported that after people shamed him in the video’s comment section, Smith went back to WalMart in hopes of gathering all of the contaminated goods.
