On an unseasonably warm December day, legendary musician, producer, and director Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson joined VIBE at New York City’s PMC Studios for his first-ever cover shoot. While on set, he discussed the burden of Black genius, broke down some iconic breakbeats, and shared how his upcoming film focuses on more than Sly Stone’s creative legacy and story.
With his personal Earth, Wind & Fire Spotify playlist setting the groovy mood, Thompson kept a relaxed yet razor-sharp focus in between shots and brought the heat with three different looks that included a striking framed all-red ‘fit, monochromatic still shots, and fun personality snaps—all taken by photographer Sage East.
