American rapper and billionaire Kanye West, also known as Ye, has set social media abuzz after revealing that he turned down a $2 million offer to promote a fraudulent cryptocurrency scheme.

The rapper, who recently made headlines for halting traffic to allow his wife’s roadside photoshoot, disclosed that the proposal involved posting a fake crypto promotion and later claiming his account had been hacked.

Taking to social media on Friday, February 7, the rapper claimed he was approached with a lucrative deal to deceive his followers.

“I was proposed 2 million dollars to scam my community. Those left of it. I said no and stopped working with the person who proposed it,” he wrote in a now-viral post.

As evidence, Kanye West shared a screenshot detailing how the scam was structured. The scheme allegedly promised him an upfront payment of $750,000 to make a promotional post about a “fake Ye currency,” which was to remain live for eight hours.

Afterward, he was expected to claim his account had been compromised. A second payout of $1.25 million would have followed 16 hours later.

The revelation sparked widespread reactions online, with many Nigerians drawing comparisons to music star Davido, who previously faced backlash for promoting a meme coin in 2024.

His involvement led to warnings from the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), cautioning citizens about the risks.

Several social media users took the opportunity to criticize Davido:

Cruisewithmee said: “@davido you will crumble for allegedly taking this deal. You act like Jesus on here but you are a dev!l in disguise. God will pvnish you for allegedly doing this to your fans.”

NuJhayhne said: “Davido would have done this without thinking twice good man you are ye!!”

layzeeloli said: “Till now I’m yet to see people call out davido for the coin stuff he did, It’s all crickets. I lost respect for him when he did what he did.

I_Am_Locked_In commented: “More reason why I hate @davido be this I am very sure they sent him that same message last year before launching his DAVIDO coin he still went ahead to scam his fans, very anyhow person.”
