Drake and PARTYNEXTDOOR’s latest joint album $ome $exy $ongs 4 U has already sparked its share of conversation, but only a few tracks have drawn as much attention as “GIMME A HUG.”
The socially-dubbed “where my hug at anthem” stands out not only for his signature flow and beat switch ups, but also for his jabs at Kendrick Lamar, Joe Budden and even a mention of of his ex, Melyssa Ford.
Now, the two Joe Budden Podcast co-hosts have responded to the 6 God’s line: “Melyssa Ford, you a legend from the 6ix, hate to see you with a d**k-sucker,” with much amusement.
“I’m still processing,” Ford admitted. “I’m just still processing. I mean, it’s great. It’s awesome. I mean, it’s not the first time, though. It’s not even the second, it’s not even the third. But thank you. I don’t know what he is trying to do, I am not in that man’s mind, I do not know. I will let you guys opine on that.”
The co-hosts further speculated that maybe Drake wanted to “divide” the two co-hosts and “conquer” by acknowledging Ford’s legacy while simultaneously demeaning Budden’s. “I was happy with that,” the rapper-turned-podcaster admitted. “I was happy.”
They also asked if she would spin the block, to which she totally brushed off. Drake and Ford were romantically involved years ago, making her reaction to “GIMME A HUG” more interesting.
$ome $exy $ongs 4 U marks the first joint album between Drake and PARTYNEXTDOOR, following years of collaborations on tracks like “Recognize,” “Over Here,” and “Come and See Me.” Released on Valentine’s Day (Feb. 14), the LP blends sultry R&B vibes with sharp lyrical digs—and addresses Drake’s most recent feuds.
While he never names anyone in any of his lyrics, it’s pretty apparent who he is speaking of on a few of his tracks.
“Bulletproof doors so heavy, got me rolling ’round like a dignitary/ Funny how it’s only bi**h ni**s that are waiting on The Boy’s obituary/ ‘Cause if I die, it’s these ni**as that become the sole beneficiary/ And what the f**k are they gon’ do with it?/ Have the girls up at 29 on stage twerking with a dictionary?” he raps elsewhere on “GIMME A HUG.”
The latter appears to be a direct shot at K. Dot, referencing the “Euphoria” diss track cover art that displayed a screenshot of an online dictionary.
