Doechii Reveals She Dealt With Suicidal Thoughts As A Child

Doechii recently shed light on her bout with mental health, revealing that she once taking her own life due to being bullied as a child.

The rising superstar, who was profiled in a new cover story by The Cut, explained how she was able to overcome her thoughts of self-harm and find “peace” within herself.

“I don’t want to get super-dark, I was getting bullied so bad that I was thinking about killing myself,” Doechii told the outlet.

However, the 26-year-old quickly surmised that her death would only harm herself and that her efforts would be in vain, as those who harmed her would remain.

“I realized, ‘Oh, f**k, I’m gonna kill myself and then I’m gonna be the only one dead,’” she explained. “The bullies aren’t gonna be with me, and everything they said is not coming with me either. I would just be gone.”

“And then I was like, ‘F**k that!’” the Florida native added. “‘F**k- that sh*t! I’m not going for that!’ And this wash of peace came over me, and I received ‘I am her.’”

Doechii now looks back at that period as a turning point in her personal evolution, as it planted the seeds that would gradually sprout her belief in self.

“I was more like this feeling of — ‘I made a choice, a decision,” she says of her realization. “I am the most important character in this movie. This is my motherf**king movie.”

The Top Dawg Entertainment artist is currently in the midst of a victory lap following a breakout year in 2024, as Doechii became one of the most buzzworthy young stars in all of music.

Her mixtape Alligator Bites Never Heal received critical acclaim and took home the Grammy for Best Rap Album, making her the second female soloist and third woman overall to earn the honor.
