Roberta Flack, the legendary Grammy-winning singer and pianist known for timeless hits such as Killing Me Softly with His Song and The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face, has passed away at the age of 88.

Her publicist confirmed the news, revealing that the legendary singer died peacefully on Monday, February 24, 2025, surrounded by her family.

While the exact cause of death was not disclosed, Flack had reportedly been battling ALS since 2022.

Born on February 10, 1937, in Black Mountain, North Carolina, Flack grew up in Arlington, Virginia. Influenced by her mother, who was a church organist, she developed a passion for music early on.

She began playing the piano at the age of nine and later earned a full music scholarship to Howard University, where she graduated at just 19.

Flack started her career as a music teacher before transitioning into performing at local clubs in Washington, D.C.

Her soulful voice and unique style earned her critical acclaim and multiple Grammy Awards.
