JAY-Z is suing the woman who previously accused him of raping her at an awards show afterparty when she was 13 years-old.
Filed on Monday (March 3), JAY-Z’s lawsuit alleges that the accuser, who remains anonymous, made “defamatory” claims in her own lawsuit against him, with the intent to “extort” him.
The alleged victim’s lawsuit accused JAY-Z and incarcerated mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs of sexually assaulting her in 2000 during an encounter at a MTV VMAs afterparty in New York City.

However, in February 2025, Jane Doe, who resides in Alabama, withdrew her lawsuit against the rap star, seemingly amid speculation regarding the validity of her claims.
JAY-Z’s legal team argues that the accuser’s “defamatory” claims were made to “inflict maximum pain and suffering on Mr. Carter.”
The filing also alleges that her attorneys, Tony Buzbee and David Fortney, “were soullessly motivated by greed, in abject disregard of the truth and the most fundamental precepts of human decency.”

“Doe has now voluntarily admitted directly to representatives of Mr. Carter that the story brought before the world in court and on global television was just that: a false, malicious story,” Hov’s lawsuit reads.
“She has admitted that Mr. Carter did not assault her; and that indeed it was Buzbee himself … who pushed her to go forward with the false narrative of the assault by Mr. Carter in order to leverage a maximum payday.”
Furthermore, the filing demanded that “the extortion and abuse of Mr. Carter by Doe and her lawyers must stop.”

Yet, Buzzbee says that his client has not recanted her story, accusing JAY-Z and his legal team of attempting to “bully” Jane Doe into dropping her claims against the mogul.
“Shawn Carter’s investigators have repeatedly harassed, threatened and harangued this poor woman for weeks trying to intimidate her and make her recant her story,” Buzzbee said in response to Hov’s filing.

“She hasn’t, and won’t. Instead she has stated repeatedly she stands by her claims. These same group of investigators have been caught on tape offering to pay people to sue me and my firm.”
Buzzbee also says that the quotes attributed to his client in JAY-Z’s lawsuit are fabricated and have no validity.
“This is just another attempt to intimidate and bully this poor woman that we will deal with in due course,” Buzzbee added. “We won’t be bullied or intimidated by frivolous cases.”
