There is nothing the community loves more than debating about ranked lists. Nick Cannon and Fredro Starr argued over who is the better actor between the late 2Pac and Will Smith while assembling the top five rappers-turned-actors.
On a recent episode of the Daily Cannon Show, the 40-year-old comedian tasked his crew with this difficult topic. Names were thrown out such as Mark Wahlberg, Starr himself, Smith, Queen Latifah, Ice Cube, and more. When one of the cast members said Pac’s name, Cannon stood up and decided to drop a hot take.
“Talking about ability, I believe that 2Pac is a greater actor than Will Smith,” he said. One person said he was “trippin’” while another reminded the crew that people believe Pac’s entire character was an act, which would lend some credence to Cannon’s claim. Starr eventually spoke up and presented a strong counterargument.
“I think Tupac is great, but I just don’t think he has enough work to compete with Will Smith,” Fredro Starr said. “Will Smith could do the comedy, he could do the drama. I’ve never seen 2Pac do the comedy like that.” Pac appeared in movies like Juice, Above The Rim, Poetic Justice, and Bullet, but of course, he wasn’t able to diversify the genres of movies he appeared in due to his life being tragically cut short in 1996.
Eventually, Nick Cannon, Fredro Starr, and the crew assembled their top five in order. From lowest to highest, it went Ice-T, Queen Latifah, Ice Cube, 2Pac, and Will Smith at No. 1. Cannon attempted to sneak Mark Wahlberg on the list at No. 2, but the crew wasn’t hearing it. Watch the clip above.
Will Smith has been linked to 2Pac for a long time due to both having relationships with Jada Pinkett Smith, though Pac’s has always been viewed in a grey area. However, he recently opened up about speaking with The Notorious B.I.G. and Prince before both luminaries died. “I don’t even want to say this out loud ’cause it’s like a terrible jinx,” he told the Broken Records Podcast. “I met Biggie four hours before he got killed, and I talked to Prince eight hours before he died.”
Prince’s death was especially difficult, as the legendary singer was presenting him with a business opportunity. “I talked to Prince, and he called, and he was pitching, saying that me, him, and JAY-Z should start an entertainment company and he said he had talked to Jay and he wanted to do it,” he recalled. “And we talked that night, and in the morning, he was gone. I don’t know what that says about me. Don’t call me.”
