Morris Chestnut‘s drama series Watson is here to stay.

The show has officially been renewed for a second season, amid the success of its first installment, at CBS and streaming on Paramount+. According to a press release, the series averages 6.79 million viewers each week.

Alongside the veteran actor, Watson also stars Eve Harlow, Peter Mark Kendall, Inga Schlingmann, Ritchie Coster, and Rochelle Aytes. Watson is produced by CBS Studios. Craig Sweeny wrote the premiere episode and serves as showrunner and executive producer.

The 56-year-old leads as Dr. John Watson, who “resumes his medical career as the head of a clinic dedicated to treating rare disorders six months after the death of his friend and partner, Sherlock Holmes, at the hands of Moriarty,” per the official synopsis.

The premiere episode of Watson was viewed by 18.7 million multiplatform viewers live, plus 35 days of viewing, making it CBS’s most-watched scripted episode of 2024-25. Additionally, in streaming alone, the premiere is the most-streamed scripted episode of all CBS Original series this season on Paramount+, with 7 million streaming viewers.

“This is much more challenging,” Chestnut noted to VIBE of his character. “Here, I’m teaching the young fellows about medicine and the world. We’re not just doctors; we’re also detectives. It was one of the things I love about the show.”

He continued to detail the experience, adding, “I want everyone who comes into our house, which is our stage, to feel comfortable and at home. I want everyone there to treat everybody with respect. So they’re pretty much the same person, just to a larger degree on set.”
