Lil Wayne Says He’ll No Longer Consider Doing A Super Bowl Halftime

Super Bowl LIX was memorable for a multitude of reasons, but the story behind the coveted halftime show performance was arguably a top storyline. However, Lil Wayne has now shared his updated stance on everything that went down.

In the months leading up to the headliner announcement, Weezy made it clear he not only highly desired to perform at the event — which was taking place in his hometown of New Orleans — but he felt nobody deserved it as much as he did. After Kendrick Lamar was selected and the show went on, the “A Milli” rapper says he’ll no longer consider doing the Super Bowl.

“Imagine you’re a player-coach still averaging 30 a night and a n**ga asking, ‘Hey, do you feel slighted that they don’t put you in the coach-type of conversations?’ ” he said in a new interview with Rolling Stone. “No. I’m still dropping 30 [points] a night. I’m fine being the best rapper, and then you just found out, ‘Oh sh*t, he owns [Young Money]? Oh, he put Drake out? Oh, my God.’ ”

On the actual day of the 2025 Super Bowl, Wayne says he didn’t watch Lamar’s performance. Instead, he played pool during the set with Lil Twist, then went outside to smoke. He reflected on how the moment made him feel, coming to a conclusion that the desire to do it one day is now gone because “that feeling” was taken away from him.

“Every time I looked, it was nothing that made me want to go inside and see what was going on,” he said. “They stole that feeling. I don’t want to do it. It was perfect.”

This was just one of the many times the Louisiana rapper expressed how meaningful the Super Bowl halftime slot is to him. Back in November 2024, he also shared his emotional response to not being selected. “I said to myself, ‘I want to be onstage for the Super Bowl one day, in front of my mom.’ And I worked my a** off to get that f**kin’ position. It was ripped away from me,” he said at the time.

Kendrick Lamar went on to deliver a highly praised performance this past February. His set included a mix of old hits and new cuts, surprise Serena Williams and Samuel L. Jackson appearances, assists from SZA and Mustard, and Drake namedrop, so much more.
