Although Michelle Obama is no longer the First Lady, she still is involved in and cares deeply about politics and life-altering policies coming from the White House. The Becoming author opened up about which policies from President Donald Trump‘s administration that worry her the most.

During a recent sit-down with On Purpose With Jay Shetty alongside her brother, Craig Robinson, Obama expressed she recognizes the privileges she has when it comes to safety. Therefore, she’s more concerned about the fragile and unpredictable conditions of others and their legal status.

“In this current climate, for me, it’s what’s happening to immigrants,” Obama explained. “It’s not the fear for myself anymore. I drive around in a four-car motorcade with a police escort. I’m Michelle Obama. I do still worry about my daughters in the world even though they are somewhat recognizable.”

She continued by saying her concern stems from the “bias” and “racism” that is present within the current administration and its decision makers. “So, my fears are for what I know is happening out there in streets all over the city. And now that we have leadership that is sort of indiscriminately determining who belongs and who doesn’t, and we know that those decisions aren’t being made with courts and with due process,” she continued. “Knowing that there’s so much bias and so much racism and so much ignorance that fuels those kinds of choices.”

During the conversation, Robinson shared an experience he had as a kid when a police officer profiled him and accused him of stealing a new bike. Obama drew parallels between that event and what is happening to immigrants in the US.

“I worry for people of color all over this country, and I don’t know that we will have the advocates to protect everybody,” she continued. “And that makes me… that frightens me. It keeps me up at night. And I and I see that when I’m driving around LA. I’m just looking in the faces of folks who could be a victim and I’m wondering, how are you feeling, how do you feel standing on the bus stop.”

According to Fox News, the Trump administration has deported more than 100,000 illegal immigrants since Donald Trump took office. On April 28, the 47th president signed executive orders on immigration enforcement, sanctuary cities, and English proficiency for truck drivers. The administration has aggressively tackled immigration control and increased awareness of the agenda, as the official White House X account has even posted deportation footage and labeled it as “ASMR.”

Earlier this year, Michelle Obama ad Craig Robinson launched their podcast, IMO. They’ve had a strong lineup of guests including Taraji P. Henson, Tracee Elliss Ross, Keke Palmer, Elaine Welteroth, and Issa Rae. Listeners have been given the inside scoop on topics like why Michelle skipped Trump’s inauguration, her marriage with Barack Obama, reality TV guilty pleasures, managing friendships, and much more.
