Four women who previously worked for Smokey Robinson are accusing the 85-year-old crooner of sexual battery, assault, false imprisonment, gender violence and creating a hostile work environment. The claims stemmed from a compliant filed in Los Angeles Superior Court on Tuesday (May 6).
His 77-year-old wife, Frances, was also named in the lawsuit.
Per PEOPLE, the plaintiffs stated that Smokey’s actions were “willful, wanton, and malicious,” with a conscious disregard of their “rights, privacy, and feelings.”
According to the complaint, Jane Doe 1 said that Robinson’s wife allegedly had “full knowledge of his prior acts of sexual misconduct” and “failed to take the appropriate corrective action” to stop his “deviant misconduct” after settling cases with other women who experienced similar sexual assaults from him.
Jane Doe 1’s first alleged sexual assault took place in March 2023, and she continued to experience “repeated sexual assaults and sexual harassment.”
Jane Doe 2 worked for the defendants from 2014 to 2020, but was allegedly “forced to resign” following Robinson’s “repeated sexual assaults” against her, which allegedly started in 2016.
Jane Doe 3 also worked as Robinson’s housekeeper from 2012 until 2024 before she was also allegedly forced to resign after the singer’s repeated incidents of “sexual assaults and sexual harassment against her.” She also accused Robinson of raping her from behind “at least 20 times” after forcing her to “lie face down” in a towel.
Jane Doe 4 was also Robinson’s housekeeper from 2006 until 2024, and also allegedly was forced to resign because of “repeated sexual assaults and sexual harassment” against her, which started in 2007.
The women are asking for a total of $50,000,000 in damages. A press conference with their legal team is set to take place this afternoon.
