The platinum-selling artist took to social media to post a nostalgic collection of throwback photos, paired with a slick, present-day portrait that screams growth, gratitude, and a future paved in platinum. Tony’s birthday post was more than just a celebration — it was a reflection.

He shared a visual timeline of the boy he was and the star he’s becoming. Two images showed a toddler Tony with the other recent one showing his recent milestone following the recent of his debut album. Tony Dayimane’s story reads like a blueprint for new-age South African rap success. Raised in Umlazi and inspired by legends like Okmalumkoolkat, Sjava, and the genre-bending flair of Young Thug, Tony began making music in his teens, fusing the spirit of his township with sonic experimentation.

His breakout came in 2023 with the Big Boy EP, featuring smash singles like “iFilimu,” “Big Boy,” “Zulu Girl,” and “PRESHA.” Each track told a different tale: from cinematic storytelling to social commentary and tributes to African womanhood, all delivered with punchy lyricism and an ear for infectious hooks.

The industry couldn’t look away — and neither could the fans. By 2024, Tony was collaborating with top-tier talent. He delivered a knockout verse on Usimamane’s 20th: Days Before Maud album, sharing the mic with ANATII on the track “Bank.” His heartfelt collab with Lwah Ndlunkulu on “Imizwa” became the anthem of the moment, earning the coveted cover of Spotify’s Made in South Africa playlist. The dreamy visuals, featuring high school flashbacks and tender young love, added even more magic to the moment.
