Blaklez Defends Maggz Amid Fans’ Backlash: “Stop Working Against the Culture”

The yet-to-be-released track, which boasts an all-star lineup including Nasty C, A-Reece, and Maggz, has sparked polarising reactions online. While many fans expressed excitement about the collaboration, a vocal portion aimed at Maggz, with some even calling for his removal from the track and labelling him “the laziest SA rapper.”

Blaklez was quick to shut down the negativity with a sharp, passionate post on social media: “Disrespecting Maggz is just crazy. Thee Magubane? No ways. Stop working against the culture, guys.🙏🏾”

His statement was relatable to many in the hip hop community who see Maggz not just as a collaborator, but as a foundational figure in SA hip hop. From his early days with the Glitz Gang to his work with the likes of Da L.E.S and L-Tido, Maggz has earned his stripes as a lyrical heavyweight—even if he’s not the most prolific in terms of releases.

For Blaklez, the criticism feels less like healthy discourse and more like an erosion of the very culture that helped build SA hip hop’s global identity. His plea—“Stop working against the culture”—serves as a broader reminder that hip hop is built on respect, legacy, and unity.

As anticipation builds for Stogie T’s collaboration with some of the scene’s sharpest pens, it remains to be seen whether the noise surrounding Maggz’s inclusion will subside.
