Donald Trump Announces Travel Ban And Restrictions For 19 Countries

President Donald Trump is like the friend (used very loosely) who springs into action after something bad happens, but chooses a solution that doesn’t necessarily always fix the problem at hand. The 78-year-old politician recently announced travel bans and restrictions for 19 countries after a terrorist attack in Colorado this past weekend.

The ban will go into effect on Monday (June 9) at 12:01 a.m. and will impact people from the following countries: Afghanistan, Myanmar, Chad, the Republic of Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen residents will be unable to visit the United States. People from Burundi, Cuba, Laos, Sierra Leone, Togo, Turkmenistan, and Venezuela will face stricter travel restrictions when attempting to visit the U.S.

Trump shared a video on social media stating that the ban was needed after the Molotov cocktail attack that injured 12 people in Boulder, Colo., on Sunday (June 1). He said that it displayed the danger of foreign visitors who overstay their visas; notably, the suspect was from Egypt, a country that does not appear on his ban list.

Nonetheless, Donald Trump felt that some countries had insufficient screening and vetting for their residents visiting the U.S., and Homeland Security had data supporting the fact that countries do not take their citizens back. “We don’t want them,” he said.

Trump had a similar initiative, which included some of the aforementioned countries during his first term in 2017, and caused an uproar because there was no runway for airlines to prepare; this time around, they at least have a warning. He expressed his interest in enacting these bans and restrictions when he took office in January, and was successful due to the Supreme Court siding with him.

This is another of the “Donald Trump Experience” which many people support for the surface level “good” he does while some of his larger actions negatively affect citizens and foreign people on a grander scale. For example, he recently pardoned YoungBoy Never Broke Again and commuted Larry Hoover’s life sentence for operating a criminal enterprise, two moves that the Hip-Hop community celebrated. And now here he is, keeping families apart via travel bans and restrictions.
