YouTuber and social media influencer Lala Baptiste is setting the record straight after her name surfaced in explosive text messages that Halle Bailey allegedly sent to DDG, amid their ongoing legal woes.
A message allegedly sent by Bailey as part of DDG’s bid for a domestic-violence restraining order read: “I just found out you slept with Lala in Mexico.” Social media quickly debunked any ideas of “Lala Anthony” being the woman in question, soon drawing the line to DDG’s friend.
In a video posted to social media, Lala called out the rumors and clarified her history with DDG — real name Darryl Dwayne Granberry Jr. “The context behind these accusations in general is stemming from a group trip that our whole friend group went on,” she said. “Everyone on this trip can confirm there was nothing weird going on. I wasn’t even staying near them. It was for someone’s birthday. Let’s start there.”
Lala also emphasized that her connection to DDG has always been cordial. “Me and Darryl’s relationship has always been strictly started off as business, obviously. If you know, you know,” she explained. “He put me on to YouTube. Started off there, grew into a friendship, has always remained platonic. … It’s hard to believe that a guy and a girl can be friends … but nothing has ever gone on past that, ever.”
The texts emerged after escalating allegations between Bailey and DDG, who share an infant son. Bailey has accused DDG of physical abuse in May, while DDG responded with a lengthy declaration alleging physical abuse and emotional coercion. Bailey currently has a temporary restraining order against him.
Ahead of the latter, Bailey alleged that DDG chipped her tooth during a car fight. He countered that with claims that she lunged at him from his backseat and missed, diving head first into his steering wheel. He also included photo evidence of cuts and bruises, all that he alleges were caused by Bailey.
According to the streamer’s lawyer and new reports, DDG was also granted a temporary restraining order against Bailey as well. “The Court granted Mr. Granberry a Temporary Restraining Order (TRO) based on the serious allegations set forth in his application,” the legal team’s statement read. “The issuance of this order reflects the Court’s finding that there is sufficient cause to provide immediate legal protection while the matter proceeds.”
“At this time, custody-related issues remain pending and are subject to a full evidentiary hearing, where both parties will have the opportunity to present their claims and defenses,” the statement continues. “These are highly sensitive matters involving a minor child, and Mr. Granberry remains committed to resolving them through the appropriate legal channels, not the court of public opinion.”
Aside from physical abuse claims, the 27-year-old also claimed that Bailey once stole his registered fire arm, threatened to kill herself infront of their child multiple times, threatened to abort their son Halo if they separated, and other allegations. He claimed he discovered in June 2023 that Bailey had attempted to terminate her pregnancy without informing him, despite what he describes as a mutual agreement to raise their child together.
According to his legal doc, Bailey allegedly told him she was bleeding and in pain around June 6. Concerned, he contacted her doctor and learned she had taken one dose of a two-pill abortion regimen. DDG says that when he confronted her, Bailey allegedly threatened to go through with the abortion unless they reconciled.
“This was the most troubling of her attempts to control me coercively,” he stated in the declaration. He claims he ended their relationship at that point but says they ultimately reconciled after discovering the pregnancy had not been affected by the single termination dose.
“Petitioner weaponized our pregnancy, demanding reconciliation or placing me in the impossible situation of being threatened that she would abort our baby should I not reconcile or accede to her demands,” the declaration reads.
Following DDG’s bombshell filings, Bailey returned to court with a new petition requesting permission to travel internationally with their son, Halo, for work — a request the judge approved. She also asked the court to prohibit DDG, his family, and associates from posting about her, Halo, or their ongoing legal matters on social media.
