The Recording Academy has announced key updates ahead of the 2026 Grammy Awards, including the return of the Best Album Cover category, a move that nods to the continued significance of visual artistry in the music world.
As part of a broader reshuffle:
- The Best Country Album category will now be split into Best Traditional Country Album and Best Contemporary Country Album, allowing for clearer recognition of both classic and modern country sounds.
- The Academy has also merged two former packaging categories—Best Boxed or Special Limited Edition Package and Best Recording Package—into one streamlined award.
- Additionally, the eligibility criteria for Best New Artist have been expanded, allowing artists who contributed less than 20% to a previously nominated Album of the Year to now qualify.
The 2026 Grammy Awards are scheduled to take place on Sunday, February 1, at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles. Nominations will be announced on November 7, 2025.
These changes continue the Academy’s recent efforts to evolve with the industry while honoring both the musical and visual aspects of artistry.
