Mayor Eric Adams has endeared some people with his young-leaning personality, but his attempts at being down-to-earth have also gotten him into multiple pickles over the years. He recently addressed his interview and cigar smoke session with controversial streamer Sneako after facing backlash.
“I don’t know the young man,” the 64-year-old politician told reporters on Monday (June 16). “I’m not familiar with his streaming at all.” The streamer and a “group of strangers” joined Adams, his son Jordan Coleman, and Amber Rose at the Gracie Mansion, where Sneako decided to go live on Twitch and have a conversation with the mayor.
The issue was, Adams wasn’t aware of the 26-year-old personality’s recent history. Last year, during a live stream, he said, “Down with the Jews! Free Palestine,” and claimed that “Every ‘conspiracy theory’ from the last century is just Israel.” This past Friday (June 13), Sneako said, “Israel is not compatible with Western civilization.” The streamer infamously sat next to Ye during his recent fiery interview with Piers Morgan that resulted in the Chicago producer walking out, and he has also been banned from Twitch for “extreme hateful conduct.”
Mayor Eric Adams claimed that he did not intentionally sit with someone so controversial, but rather it was a result of his willingness to converse with “anyone and everyone.” He seemingly didn’t see a need to vet Sneako, which resulted in him landing in hot water; part of his re-election campaign happens to be centered on ending anti-semitism. He told reporters that even if he knew about Sneako’s stances, he still would have sat with him to try and combat his perspectives.
His son Jordan Coleman called the exchange practice for a future podcast that they were going to put out, but he too didn’t know how the Twitch figure found his way to Gracie Mansion. Amber Rose stood up for Adams and Sneako on X, writing “FAKE NEWS!!! @nypost I was there and know @sneako!! He’s a Jew! Liarrrrrsss why are you trying to sabotage @NYCMayor???”
