GloRilla is one of the most successful rappers of the 2020s, known for summer anthems and hard rhymes that highlight her Memphis grit. With “Rain Down On Me,” however, the southern artist born Gloria Hallelujah Woods embraces her gospel roots with the help of Kirk Franklin, Maverick City Music, and Kierra Sheard.
Its accompanying music video dropped Monday (June 23), finding the VIBE cover star reminiscing on being a young girl raised in the church who is now grateful for the Lord’s blessings that continue to “rain down” on her and her loved ones. Check out the Benny Boom-directed visual below.
The music video comes just weeks after Glo won the Dr. Bobby Jones Best Gospel/ Inspirational Award at the 2025 BET Awards for the song.
“It’s a blessing to get the Gospel award first because I owe it all to God,” the rapper proclaimed during her acceptance speech. “Shout out to Kirk Franklin. I’m not gon’ lie, I was kind of scared to ask him for a feature on this song because ya’ll know how I be rapping. When he said ‘yes,’ I was so excited, I had this song in the vault for so long.”
While it was a jovial moment onstage, the win prompted a response from Christian artist Deitrick Haddon, who took issue with a secular artist winning an award in the gospel category.
“It’s hard for us to watch the Bobby Jones Gospel Award being given to somebody that’s not in our space. No disrespect to the artist, but that’s not the space she’s in,” he said of GloRilla. Hear his take on Glo — and Kirk Franklin’s Ultimate Icon Honor — below.
