  • Doyin said that it is important for a woman to have a certain amount in her account so that if the unexpected happens, the woman can find her feet.
  • Using her family as an example, Doyin David recounted how her mother took up all the responsibilities after her father died because she had her savings and was also working.

Nigerian reality star Doyin David has shared her thoughts on the importance of financial independence for women before getting married.

During an episode of her podcast, “Doyin’s Corner,” she asserted that a woman should ideally have between N5-10 million in her account before considering marriage.

Doyin’s reasoning behind this statement is that having a substantial savings can provide a safety net in case of unforeseen circumstances, such as the loss of a partner.

She drew from her personal experience, sharing how her mother’s savings helped their family after her father’s death.

Doyin highlighted the value of saving and financial independence, regardless of one’s circumstances.

She said:

At whatever level you are, you need to save up some money. For example, after my dad died, he left a lot of money. I never got to do anything. Up till now, I don’t even take public transport. I don’t know how to do all these house chores because of how I was brought up”.

“Assuming if my mother didn’t have money saved up. What will have happened? Because it took a while to access my dad’s money after his death. I didn’t feel the absence of my dad until after years because my mum took over the responsibilities”.

Doyin had earlier revealed why ladies who don’t have money have no business getting married .

She claimed that the biggest mistake a woman can make is “depending completely” on a man.

The reality star said she refuses to depend on the benevolence of men, stressing that she wants the protection, power, and security that comes from having her own money.
