On what would have been Aaliyah’s 46th birthday, her brother Rashad Haughton spoke with PEOPLE about her enduring legacy and everlasting influence.

“If she were here today, she would be the biggest star in the world,” he told the outlet. “Her legacy continues on. So we can imagine, we can dream, but we still have all those incredible works that she did do.”

Beyond her musical achievements, Haughton spoke highly of Aaliyah’s warmth and compassion—qualities that he feels left a lasting impression on everyone she encountered.

“My sister, although she worked so hard, she always was loving and caring to the people around her—her makeup artists, the managers,” he recalled. “A lot of times, because we go through so much in this world… a lot of people are suffering, the main thing is you have to smile through the pain, smile through the challenges and hug people. I think when people talk about my sister, the number one thing was that she was such a loving and caring person.”

Aaliyah, who was killed in a tragic plane crash in 2001, was recently honored with her own limited-edition Barbie Doll by Mattel. In a touching tribute to the “4 Page Letter” singer, the collectible was unveiled on Jan. 16, using fashion inspiration from her signature 1996 music video, “One in a Million.” The doll sports a black faux leather ensemble, dark shades, and her signature swooped hairstyle.

“I can see her playing with these dolls wherever she is right now, which I know is heaven and in a beautiful place,” he said. “And she’s going to have a doll with her, and be doing all the dance moves from ‘One in a Million’ with it.”

Barbie’s official account celebrated the release with a caption that read: “One in a Million. Today on Aaliyah’s birthday, Barbie honors the Princess of R&B’s unmatched legacy as a once-in-a-generation talent. A rising star who left an unforgettable mark on pop culture, the Aaliyah Barbie doll remembers her iconic style, keeping her influence alive across generations.”

The doll quickly sold out in pre-sales, but fans will have another chance to purchase it when it restocks at Target on Jan. 26 for $55 USD.
