Nollywood actor and filmmaker Ayo Olaiya has broken his silence following backlash over a viral video showing him with the father of late singer Mohbad at a movie location.
The video, which surfaced online recently, showed Mohbad’s father on a film set in Ikorodu, surrounded by actors. This sparked criticism and accusations of exploitation. Many viewers believed the late singer’s father had started acting and was being used in a movie to cash in on his son’s tragic death. Others claimed Ayo Olaiya was working on a movie on Mohbad.
But in a public statement shared on Instagram, Ayo Olaiya set the record straight, saying he never featured Mohbad’s father in any film and never planned to shoot a movie based on the singer’s story. Olaiya wrote:
“I am an actor and a filmmaker. I have never claimed to be a human right activist. Contrary to the lies going round, I never planned to use Mohbad’s story for a movie and I have not featured Mohbad’s dad in any of my movies.”
He explained that he and his crew were filming near Mohbad’s father’s residence in Ikorodu when the older man happened to drive by. One of the crew members recognized him and called out his name, prompting him to come over and greet them.

According to Olaiya, Mohbad’s dad only stopped briefly to exchange pleasantries and take pictures, and that was it. He continued:
“The man alighted from his car to greet us and take pictures. That’s what happened, nothing more.”
Ayo also advised fans and critics alike to be careful with spreading unverified information, especially when emotions are involved. He warned:
“Always take your time to verify things before jumping into conclusions.”
Olaiya’s post was accompanied by a strong message of gratitude to his fans for their unwavering support and a tribute to the late Mohbad. He concluded:
“To my fans, I love you all for your unflinching love and support. Many thanks for your concern. God bless you all. Rest on, legendary Mohbad.”
