Angel Reese just keeps winning. The WNBA athlete shared she is now officially a homeowner at the age of 22. Paired with the April 15 announcement, she also reminded people she was able to retire her mother, closing the chapter on the ongoing debates surrounding her financial status over the last year.
She celebrated the accomplishment by sharing a photo on Instagram of her standing in her new kitchen. “Retired my momma, became a homeowner, all at 22. So blessed,” read the caption. “Knocked off 2 BIG things off my vision board in the first 4 months of the new year!”
The photo made its rounds on X as well, where the Chicago Sky star flexed once more. She called back to the past criticism she’s received and emphasized her response to each narrative painted about her. “They said ‘she need to cover up’ so i went cover on VOGUE. they said ‘she can’t afford her rent’ so i went & bought a house. thank yaaaa,” she typed.
The “can’t afford rent” narrative Reese is referring to was spawned by an October 2024 IG Live session that snowballed into more. During the stream, she told her viewers: “Hating pays them bills, baby. I just hope you know the WNBA don’t pay my bills at all. I don’t even think that pays one of my bills. Literally, I’m trying to think of my rent for where I stay at. Let me do the math real quick. I don’t even know my [WNBA] salary. $74,000?”
After her friend crunched some numbers and confirmed Reese’s salary doesn’t cover her $8,000 rent, the LSU alum sarcastically exclaimed, “I’m living above my means!” People ran with the interaction and started debating about how Reese “mishandles” her finances. Cam’ron even offered his critiques and advice during an episode of It Is What It Is. However, Reese ended the conversation for good with her latest move.
Although her WNBA salary may not be enough to fund her lifestyle, Reese has plenty on her plate as an entrepreneur. She has locked in lucrative sponsorship deals with brands like Reebok, Reese’s Puffs, and McDonald’s, and also launched her own podcast, Unapologetically Angel.
