Shannon Sharpe is a loud and proud LeBron James fan, thus, he has ridden with the Los Angeles Lakers for the last several years. Anthony Edwards has now flipped his popular “Lakers In 5” quote against him after helping the Minnesota Timberwolves eliminate the LakeShow in the playoffs this week.
The series ended in a gentleman’s sweep, with the Timberwolves coincidentally closing the series out in Game 5 at Crypto.com Arena on Wednesday evening (April 30). After the game, the T-Wolves’ superstar guard walked through the hallway and was caught on camera jokingly saying, “Ant-Man, Batman, Superman, Lakers in 5.”
Sharpe popularized the “Lakers In 5” phrase over the last few years, adding humor to it by using either their opponents’ mascot or a player on the opposing team to set off a series of rhymes that ultimately ended in “Lakers in 5.” The purple and gold team had high expectations for this postseason after securing their first 50-win season in five years and locking in the No. 3 seed in the Western Conference largely due to the acquisition of Luka Doncic this past February. Thus, such a convincing series win for the Timberwolves had Edwards feeling on top of the world.
He wasn’t done, either. In another video, he is seen walking through the street discussing Sharpe’s prediction. “They said ‘Lakers in 5,’ and when we was up 3-1, they said ‘Lakers in 7,’” he exclaimed. “Go to hell today… The good guy gon’ die in this movie. Morris Chestnut died in this movie.” He even revealed that his favorite movie was Matilda after a fan assumed it was Boyz N The Hood due to the Chestnut reference.
The Minnesota Timberwolves are now waiting to see who wins the series between the Golden State Warriors and the Houston Rockets. Currently, the Warriors hold a 3-2 lead but after an embarrassing loss in Game 5 when they had the chance to close things out, the momentum could be swung back in Houston’s direction.
