As is customary, Joshua sent a representative into Parker’s dressing room to observe the process of wrapping the hands.
And Express Sport understands a complaint was made about a particular element of the process that saw Robert Smith, general secretary of the British Boxing Board of Control (BBBofC), called in by Duco Events promoter David Higgins to resolve the dispute.
However, Smith is understood to have with Kevin Barry and allowed the trainer to continue wrapping Parker’s hands as planned.
Barry is a hugely experienced trainer as well as a trusted man when it comes to wrapping hands and sources in New Zealand have suggested that Joshua’s representative was sent in with a pre-existing plan to attempt to disrupt Parker’s preparations.
It would not be the first time a fighter has attempted to use the hand-wrapping customs to gain a mental advantage.
When Joshua fought Wladimir Klitschko, the Ukrainian sent his brother and fellow heavyweight boxer in to check the Brit’s wraps.
