Armand Joubert knows how to spin a track and his latest banger, “Disco” pays tribute to the music with effortless EDM-pop pizzazz.
Driving piano kicks things off, lulling you into a false sense of ambience as echoing background vocals set the scene. Piano gradually ripples into melodic synth as Joubert belts out the first verse and it all compounds come the chorus when the song drops into a light, funky disco-infused modern bop, produced by Hendrik Joerges, simply bred for the boogie.
The track itself is about giving oneself over to the music, hinging on the innate euphoria and feel-good immersion that comes with getting down on the dancefloor, “Who knows where this will go/ we gotta find out/ this is know, we gotta let go of control/ its taking over me”. It’s an ode to the jol, a fun-fuelled license to fall back into the arms of music and let it move you.
