Ashanti appeared on the latest episode of American Idol as one of this season’s mentors.
In celebration of the top 24 contestants, the Grammy-winning phenom took the stage at Aulani, a Disney Resort and Spa in Ko Olina Hawaii, to perform a chilling medley of 2008’s “The Way That I Love You” and 2002’s “Foolish.”
Shining bright in a floor-length gold gown, the singer pranced around having “fun” with her brief, albeit dynamic set. She concluded with a quick homage to Hawaiian culture.

Following her performance, Ashanti spoke with host Ryan Seacrest about what she was most “impressed” by after meeting with some of the contestants.
“[I’ve been impressed by] all of their stories, all of their passion, where they come from— the talent is just through the roof, and they have a purpose. I’m just so happy and so proud of all of them,” she gushed.
During the episode, she offered some wisdom about performing to one of the contestants. “Just give it a little more ahhhh! Flip your hair and I felt like you were going there. Just give it all and everyone does this— it’s just the energy. You feel it. Definitely don’t hold back […] Give them everything. Take up the whole stage. This is your moment. America is watching. Give it to them,” Ashanti advised.
Ashanti additionally teased her new single, “Called You Up,” and the music video, which was shot in Bermuda. “It’s amazing and I can’t wait for you guys to see it,” she shared. She did not announce a release date.
The beloved singer is currently on an international tour with Sean Paul and Fat Joe. Watch the full performance above.
