Nigerian Afrobeats sensation Ayra Starr has earned a new accolade as her hit single ‘Rush’ receives platinum certification in the United Kingdom. The milestone further cements her status as one of the genre’s most internationally recognised artists.
Originally released in September 2022, ‘Rush‘ garnered widespread acclaim and commercial success, making Ayra Starr the first Nigerian female artist to debut a solo track on the UK Official Top 100 chart. It also contributed to her history-making MOBO win earlier in 2025, which further emphasised her status as one of Africa’s biggest global exports.
The platinum certification adds to the song’s growing list of accolades, which includes a prestigious Diamond certification in France—an exceptional achievement for an Afrobeats record.
The year 2025 has seen a strong start for the Grammy-nominated singer. She recently made a notable appearance at the MET Gala, underscoring her growing presence in global pop culture.
In April, Ayra Starr released “Gimme Dat“, a collaborative single with Grammy-winning artist Wizkid. The track, released on April 25, samples Wyclef Jean’s Diallo and 911 featuring Mary J. Blige. It marks the second collaboration between the two artists, following her feature on 2 Sugar from Wizkid’s fifth studio album, ‘More Love, Less Ego.’
Additionally, Ayra Starr took home the award for Best R&B Single at the 17th Headies for “Last Heartbreak Song“, a collaboration with American singer Giveon.
With a combination of critical acclaim, international recognition, and continued chart success, Ayra Starr’s trajectory continues to rise as she solidifies her place in the global music landscape.
