Azealia Banks and Bebe Rexha had a public spat on Monday (May 5) when the Harlem artist took to X to offer a harsh and unprovoked critique of Rexha’s appearance at the 2025 Met Gala.
In response to a photo of the “Meant to Be” singer rocking a black Christian Siriano ensemble, Banks wrote, “Sis gives me — hormonal birth control implant or something. It’s giving implanon/nuvaring she needs removed or depo shot that needs to stop happening.”
The next morning, Rexha clapped back with a pointed message, suggesting Banks might need to consider therapy. “You might wanna jump on some type of therapy,” she wrote. “Lexapro worked great for me. Something that helps with the deep-rooted sadness and chaos you keep projecting. Healing looks good on everyone. Try it.”

Rexha then returned to X with another message, opening up about the personal struggles behind her appearance.
In a since-deleted post, Rexha explained the toll constant body-shaming has taken on her. She revealed she has PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome), a hormonal disorder, and that she recently experienced a miscarriage, carrying the pain of her loss in silence.
“I’m so tired of people commenting on my weight. I have PCOS and struggle with infertility,” she explained. “I got pregnant, and it didn’t work out and I’ve been carrying that pain in silence. I never owed anyone that truth, but maybe now you’ll think twice before commenting on anyone’s body.”

Despite the singer/songwriter’s heartfelt revelation, Azealia kept going with multiple lengthy responses. “Bi**h that’s why ur bustin out the bando!!!!! Lexapro LITERALLY made me fat!!! I’m not kidding. And it made depression even worse,” she shared. “I took ssri’s for years and quit in 2019. First citalopram (Celexa) then escitalopram and then stopped and switched to an ashwaghanda + maca + turmeric combo.”
She added, “You should really get off Lexapro lmao, weight gain is a TRADEMARK side effect of Lexapro,” she snarked, referencing Rexha’s antidepressant comment. Even more shady, Banks offered to be Rexha’s “support sister” while advising that there was “nothing to be ashamed of” in another lengthy post.
In the midst of the back-and-forth, Banks also offered commentary on other Met Gala looks, although she wasn’t in attendance. She praised Nicki Minaj’s Thom Browne ensemble, calling it a “serrrve,” and compared Sabrina Carpenter’s look to Lil’ Kim’s iconic style.
