Nollywood actor Baaj Adebule has revisited his now-viral 2024 remarks about not wanting to marry a virgin.
WITHIN NIGERIA recalls the 36-year-old sparked major conversations last year after saying he found the idea of “disvirgining” a woman traumatic, based on a personal experience from his younger days. In his words:
“I don’t want to marry a virgin. Because first, obviously, you will have to do the disvirgining which is something I’ve been through before and it is quite traumatic.
“When people think about it, they only think about the lady, nobody thinks about the guy and what he goes through to do it. It is a very terrible experience for a guy.”
Now, in a fresh interview with Nollywood on Radio, Baaj Adebule insists his statement was misunderstood. He explained:
“We were having a wholesome conversation about virginity. How it’s a good thing and worth celebrating,”
“But I also said it shouldn’t be used to shame others or make anyone feel superior.”

Baaj clarified that he wasn’t trying to vilify virginity or those who choose to wait, but was merely speaking from personal experience. According to him, being someone’s first can come with unexpected emotional pressure. He recalled his experience:
“I shared a moment from when I was much younger. She was a virgin, and it was just… hard. There was crying, there was blood and no one was enjoying it.”
“I love intimacy that’s mutually enjoyable, and in that situation, it wasn’t.”
The actor who once revealed he parted ways with a lady over her plantain, made it clear he respects people who choose to stay virgins till marriage. “If you can pull that off, it’s amazing. But it’s not something that should be weaponized,” he added.
Baaj Adebule, who is still single, said he simply wants his future relationship to be grounded in mutual comfort and emotional connection and he’s not here for online misinterpretations.
