Bad Bunny Shares Reaction To Puerto Rico Joke At Donald Trump Rally

Donald Trump somehow won the 2024 presidential election over Kamala Harris, despite being convicted of 34 felony counts in his hush-money trial and offending the masses over the years. One particular demographic he’s demeaned has been Puerto Ricans, and Bad Bunny recently shared his reaction to the offensive joke made at his Madison Square Garden rally last year.

Benito joined Jon Caramanica and Joe Coscarelli on the latest episode of Popcast and expressed his frustration at Tony Hinchcliffe calling PR a “floating island of garbage” in October 2024. The pop star said he was “angry at the time” and happened to be in New York City when the rally took place. “Yeah, I know it was a comedian, blah, blah, blah. But that wasn’t a stand-up comedy show,” he said. “It was supposed to be a political rally.”

He initially did not know Hinchcliffe was a comedian, confusing him with a politician due to the fact he was wearing a suit. Bunny said that he was both bothered and worried at the idea people would agree with the harsh sentiment rather than recognizing it was a joke. Ultimately, after Hinchcliffe said it, the three-time Grammy winner endorsed Kamala Harris and reposted her statement about how she planned to support his home country. “I didn’t feel any pressure to say something,” he said. “I did it because I felt it.”

Bad Bunny spoke about his general political activism and how he doesn’t do it because he feels required to. “It’s not that I have in my mind like, ‘Oh, I have this power, let me use it to influence the minds of people’ or whatever,” he stated. “It’s not something that I have, and I want to do [intentionally]. It’s more like a feeling that I want to give back to the others.”

The “Monaco” artist removes himself and his stature from the scenario, instead focusing on what is important, especially when it comes to his music. “It’s not because ‘I’m Bad Bunny. I have 40 [millions followers] and I wanna—,’ no,” he added. “I always say, ‘I’m a normal human being and I have feelings and I get mad and I get happy,’ and that’s how I make my music. Sometimes I wanna talk about political things because today I feel that I’m not happy with this situation, or whatever, it’s how it works.”

Benito recently put out his sixth studio album, Debí Tirar Más Fotos. The 17-track album featured RaiNao, Chuwi, Omar Courtz, Dei V, and more. Listen below.
