The 30-year-old Bafana Bafana skipper has been with SuperSport United since 11 years of age with the club’s youth academy and is the club’s record appearance-holder with over 300 matches.

Ronwen Williams doubts SuperSport United can win the league

The gloveman signed a four-year contract with the club at the end of January 2020 and says he is happy at the club, but admits he does not feel his ambition of winning the league will materialise at SuperSport United, whilst confirming he is in talks with potential suitors.

Editor’s note: Ronwen, if you really wish to win the league the ONLY team you need to speak to is Mamelodi Sundowns!

“There have been talks and we will see what is going to happen, but there has been some interest and now it will depend on if the club is willing to let me go,” Ronwen Williams said at a Castle Lager ‘It’s Within’ event.

“But I’ve told SuperSport what my ambitions are and it’s for them to decide if they want me to stay. If they want me to stay I will gladly do so, but if they decided to let me go maybe it’s the time now.

“But, like I said, I’m happy at SuperSport. We will see in the next few weeks what’s going to happen.

“My ambitions are to win the league. I told them I haven’t won the league and obviously the direction the club is going in now we should be realistic, we’ve got a lot of youngsters, there’s no chance that we can challenge the bigger boys.

“I can’t see us winning the league title. Yes, we will challenge for the cups here and there, but I’ve got bigger ambitions than that. We will see what happens, but if I stay, I will give my all like I always do.”

SuperSport United are currently in ninth place in the DStv Premiership log with one match remaining.

They need to beat Orlando Pirates on Monday, 30 May in order to jump into the top eight and qualify for the MTN8 next season.

Anything less than the full three points will see Matsatsantsa miss out.
