In a recent episode of the SA Hip Hop Mag Podcast, rapper Big Zulu set the record straight on lingering rumours about his relationship with fellow hip hop heavyweight Kwesta — particularly the claim that he’s living in Kwesta’s house because he’s signed to him.
Addressing the speculation head-on, Big Zulu was clear, calm, and unbothered: “I don’t live in Kwesta’s house. I bought the house cash.”
The rumours, which have circulated on social media for years, suggested that the iMali Eningi hitmaker was staying in a home owned by Kwesta and possibly signed to Kwesta’s label. But Big Zulu made it known there is no such deal in place, and no dependency between the two artists.
“I’m not signed to anyone. I own my own label,” he said, referring to Nkabi Records, the independent imprint he founded and has been building into a powerhouse.
So where did the rumour even start? According to Big Zulu, it likely stemmed from a coincidence involving Property24, South Africa’s leading real estate platform.
“I saw the house listed on Property24 and realised I had seen the house before,” he explained. “But that was the only link. I liked the house, I went to view it, and I paid for it in cash. That’s it.”
The rapper emphasized that there’s no bad blood between him and Kwesta.
Fans of both artists took to social media after the episode dropped, many applauding Big Zulu’s transparency and independence. In an industry where co-signs and label affiliations often blur the lines between business and friendship, Big Zulu is making it clear that he stands on his own — proudly and financially stable.
As for the house? It’s his — deed, title, keys and all.
