In a recent candid conversation, Big Zulu peeled back the curtain on the creative process behind his powerful collaboration with Emtee on the track Abazazi Bafunani — a street anthem that’s quickly becoming a fan favourite.

What stood out most wasn’t just the music, but the humility and professionalism that surrounded its creation. Despite a history of tension between the two artists — including public jabs and industry gossip — Big Zulu made it clear that past drama had no bearing on his vision for the song.

“There was never any bad blood in my heart. Emtee is talented, and I knew he was the right person for this track,” Zulu said.

The collaboration came about organically. Zulu reached out to Emtee directly, expressing his desire to work with him and sharing the emotional direction he had in mind for the track. To guide the vibe, Zulu referenced Emtee’s own classic We Up — a track filled with hunger, hope, and a triumphant spirit.

“I told him I wanted that We Up feeling,” Big Zulu recalled. “That emotion, that grit, that pain turned into purpose. He knew exactly what I meant.”

By the time Big Zulu arrived for their studio session, Emtee had already laid down his part — and according to Zulu, it was everything he’d hoped for.

“He didn’t just deliver — he understood. He gave the song life,” Zulu shared.

Abazazi Bafunani now stands as not just a lyrical exchange between two heavyweights, but a testament to mutual respect and artistic maturity. It’s a reminder that the music comes first — and that even in an industry filled with egos and conflict, true collaboration is always possible when there’s genuine intent behind it.

This collaboration marks a turning point for both artists — one that fans are celebrating loudly across platforms.

And if there’s one takeaway from Big Zulu’s story, it’s this: sometimes the most powerful tracks are born not just from inspiration, but reconciliation.
